At Smooth Skin Dermatology Clinic, we have invested in the Cutera Excel V+, a state-of-the-art laser system designed to target the three primary signs of skin aging: redness, pigmentation, and texture. Unlike older devices that treat only one issue, the Excel V+ is a dual-wavelength platform (532 nm & 1064 nm) that allows us to treat over 20 different unique skin concerns on the face and body.

The Technology: How It Works

The Excel V+ is a non-invasive, multipurpose laser. It works by delivering high-power green and infrared light energy that is selectively absorbed by the target problem—whether it is broken blood vessels (redness) or sun spots (pigment)—while sparing the surrounding healthy skin.

  • 532nm Wavelength: Targets superficial blood vessels and brown pigment.

  • 1064nm Wavelength: Penetrates deeper to treat larger veins and darker vascular lesions.

  • Laser Genesis: A signature micro-pulse mode that gently heats the upper dermis to stimulate collagen

What We Treat

This versatile device allows our team to clear a wide range of vascular and pigmentation conditions.

Vascular Concerns (Redness)

  • Rosacea: Diffuse redness and flushing.

  • Telangiectasia: Spider veins and broken capillaries around the nose and cheeks.

  • Port Wine Stains: Vascular birthmarks.

  • Leg Veins: Visible spider veins on the thighs and calves.

  • Cherry Angiomas: Small red dots on the body.

Pigmentation & Texture

  • Sun Damage: Freckles and solar lentigines (age spots).

  • Poikiloderma: Reddish-brown discoloration on the neck and chest.

  • Acne Scarring: Red or brown marks left behind after breakouts.

  • Skin Rejuvenation: Improving fine lines, wrinkles, and enlarged pores.

Treating Rosacea, Pigmentation, and Spider Veins

Often called the “Lunchtime Laser,” Laser Genesis is a unique treatment mode available on our Excel V+ system.

  • What it does: It uses gentle micro-pulses of laser light to target the skin’s microvasculature and stimulate the production of collagen.

  • The Sensation: It is a comfortable, non-invasive treatment often described as relaxing.

  • The Result: A visible improvement in skin tone, fine lines, and texture

Who is laser for?

Laser is suitable for patients with visible structural or colour imperfections who want results beyond what creams can achieve. It is ideal for treating Rosacea, Acne Scarring, Sun Damage, and Angiomas. However, it may not be suitable for patients with Melasma (who risk rebound pigment) or those with very dark skin types (Fitzpatrick V-VI) without specialized settings.

Your Treatment Journey

1. Consultation & Assessment Before we begin, we assess your skin type to ensure safety. The Excel V+ is highly customizable, allowing us to adjust the settings for your specific skin concern.

2. The Procedure The device features a specialized cooling tip (Sapphire Contact Cooling) to maximize comfort and protect the skin surface during treatment. Treatment is generally well-tolerated.

3. Downtime & Recovery This is a non-ablative laser, meaning it does not break the skin surface.

  • Pigment: Brown spots may darken and peel off over a few days.
  • Vessels: You may experience temporary redness, swelling, or mild discomfort for 24–48 hours.

  • Activity: You can typically return to normal social activities immediately after Laser Genesis, or shortly after stronger vascular treatments.

Safety & Important Information

The Excel V+ is FDA cleared and TGA approved. However, as with all medical lasers, there are important safety considerations:

  • Sun Exposure: You cannot be treated if you are currently tanned (fake or real). Sun exposure increases the risk of side effects.

  • Contraindications: We cannot treat you if you are pregnant, have a history of keloid scarring, or have taken Roaccutane (Isotretinoin) in the last 6 months
