Your first consultation at Smooth Skin Dermatology Clinic is designed to be thorough, personalized, and comfortable. Led by specialist dermatologist Dr. Sara Sabourirad (MD, FACD), it typically lasts 15 minutes, depending on your concerns. You'll start by discussing your medical history, skin issues, and any symptoms with Dr. Sabourirad in a private, welcoming environment. A physical examination of the affected areas may follow, so wear comfortable clothing that allows easy access to the skin in question. Dr. Sabourirad will then provide a diagnosis, explain treatment options based on evidence-based guidelines, and create a tailored plan, which could include medications, procedures, or follow-up tests like patch testing or biopsies if needed.
Bring any relevant documents, such as your referral letter, Medicare card, previous test results, or a list of current medications. If a minor procedure (e.g., biopsy or cortisone injection) is required during the visit, additional fees may apply—ranging from $50 to $750 out-of-pocket, with potential Medicare rebates.
While you can book an appointment without a referral, we strongly recommend obtaining a valid referral from your General Practitioner (GP) to access Medicare rebates for your consultation and any procedures. Without a referral, you will be responsible for the full fee, and no Medicare rebate will apply. Referrals are typically valid for 12 months from the date of issue.
